BLUES RHYTHMS

BLUES RHYTHMS

“Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel”

-Jimi Hendrix

Whether it’s a low-down 12/8 grind, a 4/4 shuffle or a 16 beat funk; there are many different rhythms in the blues genre. And while 12 bar blues seems to be the norm; many blues tunes have been written using 8 measures (Key to the Highway), 9 measures (Sitting on Top of the World)….even 16 measures (Watermelon Man). Whether fast or slow, major or minor, 8, 9, 12, or even 16 bars; you’ll more-than-likely know a blues song when you hear it.

Most beginner guitar players looking for easy songs to play on guitar start with the basic 12 bar blues form, which is also the most common.
